Though we are doing remarkably well today, it is important to remember where we came from and how we developed. With that close to our hearts, the ORV has seen an increase in all of the conventions thus far. In addition to this, we have seen a growth in the chapters in the Columbus area as well as a higher turn over from Symposium students who go on to start chapters. Speaking of the Ohio Symposium, we had an increased turnout from the previous year and a revised format which allowed delegates to become more engaged in discussion and more intently focused on our phenomenal speakers. On top of this, Governor Strickland even visited our group and we were privileged with a picture! The ORV has also held two successful leadership conferences and a sensational Regional. At all three of these conventions, delegates discuss, debate, and try and solve prominent issues in today’s world. The 2007-2008 ORV school year is shaping up to be one of incredible success. We have a tremendously dedicated Cabinet of student leadership who strive to bring the mission of JSA to all the schools within our state. We will work to ensure all the conventions are above your expectations, that our state increases the amount of tax paid members as well as chapters, raise the attendance levels of conventions from years past, and ensure that when the Seniors graduate young students are prepared and willing to take over. The Cabinet has been designed to achieve these goals; however, that is not enough. We will need your help to carry out these ambitions. It will take hard work, commitment, and true passion to complete what we strive for, but I believe without doubt we can all do it. The most important thing to remember, is that any one person can make a difference. Any one person can step up to the plate and hit a home run. Any one person can spread the mission of JSA to delegated both in and out of their respective schools. Most importantly, any one person can be a leader at any level so long as they put in true effort and true heart. The main element in completing any task is communication. This year, we have redesigned this branch from the Expansion and Communication Department (ECD) into the Expansion, Communication, and Affairs Department (ECAD). By arranging this department in this way, we will cut down the amount of calls each person receives and ensure that all the information is passed through one branch of Cabinet rather than multiple branches. Also, each ECAD agent is assigned to a certain school; therefore, the process is more personalized and more efficient both for the agents and Chapter Presidents. What we need from all of you is that you return our agents calls and check your emails frequently. In doing so, our communication will be improved beyond any doubt, and all levels, every area of our state will be connected! The 2007-2008 year is an incredibly important year for the Ohio River Valley State. We are presented with numerous opportunities to improve and further our great state! I am certain that through our inspirational Cabinet members, proficient and patient Chapter Presidents and Teacher Advisors, and devoted delegates throughout the ORV we will be able to endure any and every obstacle we may face. JSA is a student’s outlet to express their opinions, passionately debate topics near and dear to their hearts, and display unwavering leadership skills in the every instance of their high school career. I am eternally thankful for everything you do for this organization, whether it be debating all sides of an issue, staying up late writing or prepare for a debate, or even dressing up for a themed dance! I encourage you to keep your love and dedication for JSA, for in doing so you will ensure that the ORV will remain spectacular. All the Best, Rita Rochford Ohio River Valley Governor
