Great Lakes Region

Hello Fellow JSAers!

My name is Rachel Zupan and I am the Mayor of the Great Lakes Region for the 2008-2009 JSA year. I attended St. Peter's last year as you may or may not know and I am moving this year and will be attending Walsh Jesuit High School in Hudson, Ohio, so I will be closer to most GLR schools this year.
I wanted to thank you all once again for electing me for the position of Mayor and I am very excited to be working with you all this year. As Mayor, my job is to assist chapters with anything that need, such as (but not limited to) membership drives, hosting mini-conventions, fundraising, or anything else needed on the chapter level, along with working with the Expansion Department to expand our region as best we can. Another job given to me is planning two one day regional events. We have one in the fall and one in the spring. Our fall regional will be held as Case and our second will be held as OSU with the OVR.
This year I want to get to know every chapter president in my region. I want to know how their chapter is doing and what they need help with. It is very important to know your leadership, but is equally important that your leadership knows you. I want to work with all of you to plan out our year and I want your input to make JSA the best year yet! I want to work with all of cabinet to make our region, and state of course, even better than it already is.
Our regionals are going to be so exciting, especially our fall regional as the election approaches! Along with my Vice Mayor, Ellen Rochford, we are planning an amazing fall regional right now for all of you and can't wait to see you all there! We're also working on a regional constitution for both the OVR and the GLR and will be presenting them to the Council of Chapter Presidents at Fall State.
As far as expansion is concerned this year, I will be working with our expansion director, Liz Litteral, to get chapters going all over, especially in Columbus as we attempt to get more chapters going in central Ohio.
For communication, a website and facebook groups are in the works to get everyone in the GLR actively involved in everything that goes on this year. Once again, it's about what you want done this year!
I want you all to know to NEVER hesitate to contact me via Facebook, e-mail, or phone at any time. I can't wait to hear all your ideas this year and to get everyone involved with our regional, expansion, communication, and more! Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to work with you all and I can't wait for us to better the Great Lakes Region and the Junior State of America as a whole. Always remember our motto: "Democracy is not a spectator sport," and the same goes for JSA democracy. Ellen and I want to hear from you this year and we can't wait to get things started with you!

Dear members (and faImagens) of the GREAT Lakes Region,

I’m Ellen Rochford from St. Vincent- St. Mary’s High School and I am your Vice Mayor.  I am currently a sophomore and when I’m not at JSA events I’m sketching or at the gym.  When I am at JSA, I work with the Cabinet and on the Muckraker, the ORV’s outstanding newspaper.  On Cabinet I do whatever is needed.  I work with Rachel Zupan, GLR Mayor, to plan the Regionals and help with any problems the chapters in the GREAT Lakes Region may come across.  This year will be the best for the GLR because our chapters have and will continue to grow.  I hope to up the level of debates, increase Regional attendance, and help educate new members of JSA on the Region system used.  I’m confident that my region will raise the bar this year and every year after.  I’m honored to be the Vice Mayor of a region so awesome it has great right in the name.   I love my job and hope to get to know you all at conventions and at the Regional, (which I’m sure you will all attend).

 Ellen Rochford
